Hand-Lettered Word
Panache
Project Type: Typography Exploration
Medium: Hand Lettering

Objective: Create a hand-lettered word that visually embodies its own meaning. The goal was to move beyond typography as structure and use letterform as emotional expression.

Design Solution: I chose the word “Panache”—a term that conveys flamboyance, style, confidence, and flair. Every aspect of the letterform was intentionally crafted to reflect these qualities:

-
The letters break the baseline, suggesting bold self-assurance and freedom from convention.
-
Variable x-heights add a sense of movement and flamboyance, echoing the unpredictable flair the word implies.
-
The style walks the line between cursive and script, lending a sense of elegance with attitude.

This piece was an exploration in how visual rhythm, spacing, and balance can express personality, where each stroke becomes part of the word’s story.
